I am honored to welcome you all to my world. I am Deondre' Lamar Rutues, aspiring community leader with a vision to transform the Austin community and ultimately the entire 37th ward.
My love for the Austin community comes from growing up in the neighborhood. I moved to the west side when I was 8 years old and it has been a part of me ever since. Attending and graduating from J.W. Howe, Douglass Jr. High and Austin Community Academy, I was molded by the community in which nearly ALL of my life experiences come from. Much like the community and the people within it, I grew to be tough, resilient, resourceful, and passionate about pursuing my dreams. It is a dream of mine to see Austin flourish.
My love for the community will no longer allow me to watch the neighborhood I grew up in continue to deteriorate. Austin needs a new voice. A new leader. Someone that has the best interests of the community at heart. Someone that is ready to be out front and assisting in every level of re-organizing the community. Someone that can combine new-age techniques along with time-honored traditions to create the forward progress the community needs for growth.
This campaign started because I kept asking, "where is the leadership, where is the representation for my generation, those fearless men and women that know progress has to be fought for, that our silence only aids our stagnation and to move forward we must challenge the status quo?" I am that leader, voice and representation that will be the force to transform the Austin community. But I need YOUR help!
To transform the 37th ward and ultimately the entire Austin community, I'll be utilizing a combination of leadership tactics. I will be using Transformational Leadership and Servant Leadership, a combination that I believe will be the most essential part of any strategy to transform the community. Essentially, I will be for the community and the people within it. But again I need YOUR help!
I need YOU to love the community we are from as much as you've loved anything in life. Think of your family and friends that grew up in Austin and the children that are doing so right now. Collectively, WE can provide a better life for them now and in the future!
